Phase 1 Habitat Mapping & Protected Species Survey
Also known as the Extended Phase 1 Ecological Survey, this survey is the primary survey asked for by planners, the purpose of this survey is to provide a high level scoping assessment and to assist in demonstrating compliance with wildlife legislation and planning policy objectives.

The key objectives are as follows:

» Identify all relevant statutory and non-statutory designated sites and features of ecological significance within the site and its surroundings.
» Broadly categorise habitat types within the site in accordance with JNCC Phase 1 Habitat Survey methodology.
» Assess the potential for the presence of protected species and species of principal conservation importance within the site and its surroundings.
» Provide recommendations for further surveys where assessed as necessary and suggest potential enhancements.
» Provide an early indication of potential ecological mitigation and compensation requirements.

This survey is required for all new developments and will where necessary recommend further species specific protected surveys which will be required to inform the planning authority to identify impacts upon any potential protected species.
